Congratulations to Christopher Weyant, the 2020 recipient of The Evidence-Based Teaching Award in Undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education (STEM). This award, funded by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, is given yearly to a full-time faculty member in a STEM department who uses pedagogical strategies that have been demonstrated in the literature to be effective for teaching students; or who has developed an innovative approach that they are evaluating in their own classrooms.

Dr. Weyant, a Teaching Professor of Materials Science & Engineering, has demonstrated the use of several active learning techniques in his classrooms shown to improve student performance including; Flipped Classroom (ENGR 220); Problem-Based Learning (PBL) (ENGR 101 & 102, MATE 221, MATE 230); Problem Solving Studio (PSS) (MATE 370); and Student Response Systems (ENGR 111).

Dr. Weyant has previously presented at a CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour and contributed to the CASTLE Teaching Topics video on Flipped Classrooms.
